Church of Alaró

Central nave

We finish our visit with a glance at the grandiose central nave. The ancient churches of Majorca are usually of large dimensions. Alaró's church confirms the rule.

We would like to highlight some important details. For instance, the eleven pictures above the chapels represent an apostolate. They depict the twelve disciples of Jesus, with one disciple missing, as he is located in the sacristy. Originally, the paintings were placed where the stained glass windows are now. When the paintings were lowered a few metres, one of them was displaced by the organ, which had occupied the new space.

If you have good eyesight or binoculars, take a moment to notice the wooden orna-ments in the centre of each vault. These ornaments represent the dedication of one of the side chapels. With a little more attention, you'll observe the dates above them in-dicating when each section of the church was completed.

Pay attention to the columns that separate the chapels. In the upper section, there is a collection of coats of arms from Alaró, featuring a wing and a castle.

Finally, examine the large and ancient candelabra that illuminated the temple during the grand religious festivities.
